South Nyack 10-Mile Run (8:15 am - 11:30am)

Location: South Nyack, corner of Franklin Street and Cedar Hill Avenue.

Details:

The 24th annual South Nyack 10-Mile Run is Sunday, Sept. 9, 8:30 a.m., starting at Franklin Street Park near the South Nyack firehouse. The race has been designated the USA Track & Field-New York 10-mile championship. The event benefits South Nyack and Piermont fire departments, Nyack Ambulance Corps and Nyack soup kitchens. Entry fee before Sept. 1 is $25 for Rockland Road Runners members and residents of South Nyack, Piermont and Grand View, and $30 for nonmembers. After Sept. 1 and on race day, entry fee is $35 for all participants. Check-in goes from 7 to 8:15 a.m. Children’s Fun Runs start at 8:15 a.m. T-shirts are limited to first 400 entrants, and are not guaranteed to race-day entrants. Pre-race packet pickup is noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Orangetown Fire House, 90 Depot Place, South Nyack.

Details:

Celebrate the history of lighthouses on the Hudson River. Tours of the lighthouse will be given throughout the day. 19th century maritime music and storytelling will be performed by Balladeer, Linda Russell and Storyteller Jonathan Kruk, in the shadow of the lighthouses. A costumed interpreter, portraying Lighthouse Keeper, Mrs. Nancy Rose, will host a tea party for visitors. Free with $5.00 parking

Earth and Sea showcases the work of three artists exploring the natural landscape using their own unique processes to illustrate movement, form and human interaction with the elements.  Zaria Forman’s intricate drawings explore moments of transition, turbulence and tranquility in the landscape and their impact on the viewer.  Gretchen Kane layers transparent color and line, creating movement, repetition and relationship in her work.  Leah Oates’s photography responds to sites and objects that are often ignored and articulates the effects of social processes and consumption on the landscape.

Be sure to bring your lawn chair to historic Harmony Hall on September 9th from 1-7 PM as world-renowned fiddler, Sue Cunningham, and her band brings Bluegrass back to the ever-green heart of the Ramapo Highlands! This free festival and craft fair focuses on one of America’s most popular musical art forms. It also features the talents and goods of local artisans.We are also thrilled to welcome back the progressive Bluegrass artists of Mama Tried, who left last year’s audience asking for more. The festival offers regional music lovers an unprecedented opportunity to enjoy the diversity of musical styles that make Bluegrass music so popular worldwide. Again, bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and we’ll supply the rest.

Self taught artist and Nyack resident Peter Cheney exhibits his art in “The world according to Peter Cheney.” His paintings, sometimes on found objects, reflect the simplicity and directness of country road signs, while his animal characters tell anecdotes of his time in Rockland County and in his day-to-day life.
