Self taught artist and Nyack resident Peter Cheney exhibits his art in “The world according to Peter Cheney.” His paintings, sometimes on found objects, reflect the simplicity and directness of country road signs, while his animal characters tell anecdotes of his time in Rockland County and in his day-to-day life.

Nyack Farmers’ Market (8:00 am - 2:00pm)

Location: Municipal Parking Lot at Main and Cedar Streets, Nyack, NY

Details:

The Nyack Farmers’ Market is open every Thursday, Rain or Shine, from 8:00am - 2:00pm.  The Market features fruits and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, perennials, orchids, pies and baked foods, honey, cheese and bread. A story hour and entertainment is held weekly at 11:00am. Market Calendar includes Corn Roast in August and Harvest Festival in October.

Earth and Sea: Zaria Forman, Gretchen Kane, Leah Oates (1:00 pm - 5:00pm)

Details:

Earth and Sea showcases the work of three artists exploring the natural landscape using their own unique processes to illustrate movement, form and human interaction with the elements.  Zaria Forman’s intricate drawings explore moments of transition, turbulence and tranquility in the landscape and their impact on the viewer.  Gretchen Kane layers transparent color and line, creating movement, repetition and relationship in her work.  Leah Oates’s photography responds to sites and objects that are often ignored and articulates the effects of social processes and consumption on the landscape.

Using ingenious homemade camera riggings, Australian artist Callum Cooper creates films that flip and spin placing the viewer inside the action, much like being on a ride in an amusement park. Created at the Vytlacil Campus of the Arts Student League of New York, 2011.

The Annual Blauvelt Sons of Italy Italian Feast and Carnival (5:00 pm - 11:59pm)

Location: Masonic Park Fair Grounds, 89 Western HighwaY, Tappan, NY

From September 13 thru September 16, 2012 the Blauvelt Sons of Italy, Rockland Lodge #2176, will be hosting their Annual Italian Feast and Carnival. 

The 4-day event will span from Thursday to Sunday. Admission is free, Parking is free and there will be both kiddie and adult rides at the carnival which adjoins the feast. There will also be free live entertainment throughout the 4 days featuring acts such as ALFIO, Vinny Pastore & The Crazy Horse All Stars, Louis Vanaria & The Tony T Orchestra, Steve Maglio, Al Sapienza, The Nostalgix, Eric DeLauro, Lauren Mascitti, Kick Start Charlie, Still Saffire, Lauren and Jerry D’Imperio’s 3D Rock band and Dennis Dell.

Celebrities will also be making appearances at the feast and some will be presented with OSIA (Order Sons of Italy in America) Awards of the Arts. Previous recipients include local actor Michael Rispoli, Armand Assante and Italian American writer Richard Vetere. Awards are presented by local actor/filmmaker Paul Borghese of Tappan Films who is a long-time Blauvelt Sons of Italy member and serves as both the feast’s Entertainment Director and Master of Ceremonies.

Good family fun, traditional Italian feast treats such as zeppole, sausage and pepper heros, pizza and much much more as well as carnival rides, games of chance, a casino tent, non-stop live entertainment, celebrities, artists, artisans, local politicians and a chance to win one of four cars being raffled off on Sunday makes for this 4-day event to be more of what many are now calling “more of a County Fair”, than just a feast!
