Self taught artist and Nyack resident Peter Cheney exhibits his art in “The world according to Peter Cheney.” His paintings, sometimes on found objects, reflect the simplicity and directness of country road signs, while his animal characters tell anecdotes of his time in Rockland County and in his day-to-day life.

Our Historic Rockland Day Trip Series Continues… Come tour with us and find out about the really historic Stony Point…it’s not just a Battlefield! Relax on a comfortable bus, lavatory and microphone equipped, while we tour the town, see the sites and step off to explore a few locations more closely.
We will meet and board the bus at Fireside Restaurant on Rt. 9W in Stony Point. We’ll step back in time and hear of Mad Anthony Wayne, see the churches of today and yesterday and visit the Gilmore Sloane House. Highlights will include the Pyngyp School, lime kiln, the Ice House ruins, the oldest houses, the Mitch Miller House, “Teachers Rest,” the former Lovett plant, the onetime amusement park turned arsenal…and MORE! Please join us to see, right in our own backyard, the locations of significant happenings in our nation’s earlier days.

Bounce! Trampoline Sports Kick Off Event & Fundraiser to Help Kids Get Fit & Feel Great (10:00 am - 12:00pm)

Starting this fall, kids in Rockland, Westchester and Bergen counties will have a chance to get fit and healthy by participating in a unique pilot program sponsored by Bounce! Trampoline Sports, well known New York area sports nutritionist Dr. Michael Wald, and the Rockland Farm Alliance.
A kickoff party for the new program will take place at Bounce! Trampoline Sports in Valley Cottage on Saturday, September 15th from 10 am until noon. Kids and parents will have an opportunity to meet Victor Byrne, head trainer for Bounce, participate in mini aerobic and acrobat classes, see trampoline demonstrations by top athletes, speak with nutritionist Dr. Michael Wald as well as representatives from the Rockland Farm Alliance.
Anyone is welcome to attend the party on September 15th. The cost is $12 for one hour or $22 for two hours and proceeds will be donated to the Rockland Farm Alliance.
The groundbreaking Get Fit Feel Great pilot program will involve 25 kids ages 12 – 15 who care about their own fitness and want to develop a program that will help other kids in the future. The program will run for eight weeks and involve exciting trampoline based activities and games, workshops on creating fun and healthy snacks, and feedback sessions on what the kids like and want to adjust going forward.

The Annual Blauvelt Sons of Italy Italian Feast and Carnival (11:00 am - 11:59pm)

From September 13 thru September 16, 2012 the Blauvelt Sons of Italy, Rockland Lodge #2176, will be hosting their Annual Italian Feast and Carnival.
The 4-day event will span from Thursday to Sunday. Admission is free, Parking is free and there will be both kiddie and adult rides at the carnival which adjoins the feast. There will also be free live entertainment throughout the 4 days featuring acts such as ALFIO, Vinny Pastore & The Crazy Horse All Stars, Louis Vanaria & The Tony T Orchestra, Steve Maglio, Al Sapienza, The Nostalgix, Eric DeLauro, Lauren Mascitti, Kick Start Charlie, Still Saffire, Lauren and Jerry D’Imperio’s 3D Rock band and Dennis Dell.
Celebrities will also be making appearances at the feast and some will be presented with OSIA (Order Sons of Italy in America) Awards of the Arts. Previous recipients include local actor Michael Rispoli, Armand Assante and Italian American writer Richard Vetere. Awards are presented by local actor/filmmaker Paul Borghese of Tappan Films who is a long-time Blauvelt Sons of Italy member and serves as both the feast’s Entertainment Director and Master of Ceremonies.
Good family fun, traditional Italian feast treats such as zeppole, sausage and pepper heros, pizza and much much more as well as carnival rides, games of chance, a casino tent, non-stop live entertainment, celebrities, artists, artisans, local politicians and a chance to win one of four cars being raffled off on Sunday makes for this 4-day event to be more of what many are now calling “more of a County Fair”, than just a feast!

Earth and Sea showcases the work of three artists exploring the natural landscape using their own unique processes to illustrate movement, form and human interaction with the elements. Zaria Forman’s intricate drawings explore moments of transition, turbulence and tranquility in the landscape and their impact on the viewer. Gretchen Kane layers transparent color and line, creating movement, repetition and relationship in her work. Leah Oates’s photography responds to sites and objects that are often ignored and articulates the effects of social processes and consumption on the landscape.
