Self taught artist and Nyack resident Peter Cheney exhibits his art in “The world according to Peter Cheney.” His paintings, sometimes on found objects, reflect the simplicity and directness of country road signs, while his animal characters tell anecdotes of his time in Rockland County and in his day-to-day life.

Details:
The Nyack Farmers’ Market is open every Thursday, Rain or Shine, from 8:00am - 2:00pm. The Market features fruits and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, perennials, orchids, pies and baked foods, honey, cheese and bread. A story hour and entertainment is held weekly at 11:00am. Market Calendar includes Corn Roast in August and Harvest Festival in October.

Details:
Earth and Sea showcases the work of three artists exploring the natural landscape using their own unique processes to illustrate movement, form and human interaction with the elements. Zaria Forman’s intricate drawings explore moments of transition, turbulence and tranquility in the landscape and their impact on the viewer. Gretchen Kane layers transparent color and line, creating movement, repetition and relationship in her work. Leah Oates’s photography responds to sites and objects that are often ignored and articulates the effects of social processes and consumption on the landscape.

Details:
The carnival that was once popular at the Nanuet Mall is making an appearance at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, NY. There will be plenty of rides, games, food and fun for the whole family. Free parking and free admission. Special events include a car cruise on Thursday, a family health and safety expo on Saturday and vendor sale on Sunday. The carnival is a benefit for the Jan and Niles Davies Learning Center.

Using ingenious homemade camera riggings, Australian artist Callum Cooper creates films that flip and spin placing the viewer inside the action, much like being on a ride in an amusement park. Created at the Vytlacil Campus of the Arts Student League of New York, 2011.

Evening Lecture: The Unknown Palisades at The Historical Society of Rockland County (7:15 pm - 9:00pm)

Details:
Through images and narrative, the story of the Palisades is brought to life. Among the topics covered are the villages that once dotted the shores; the palatial estates that rose on the summit; the epic struggle of the New Jersey Women’s Clubs and others to preserve the cliffs from defacement by massive stone quarries; the bathing beaches and other facilities that ran at full-tilt during the early decades of the twentieth century; the work of the New Deal agencies in the park during the Great Depression; and the oasis that the park has become in today’s busy world.
