Self taught artist and Nyack resident Peter Cheney exhibits his art in “The world according to Peter Cheney.” His paintings, sometimes on found objects, reflect the simplicity and directness of country road signs, while his animal characters tell anecdotes of his time in Rockland County and in his day-to-day life.

The Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt will hold their annual Autumn Festival on Saturday, September 29th from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. on the convent grounds (496 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY 10913).  Attendees can expect a fun-filled afternoon featuring live music, hand-crafted items and a variety of raffles and prizes. There will also be pony rides, a fish toss, face painting, a super slide and house of bounce and a number of games for the children. After the fun and games, cool off and fill-up with refreshing beverages and hot food.

2nd Nature Skateshop, “Nyack Needs a Skatepark” and Nyack’s Chamber of Commerce are presenting Nyack’s First ‘Game of Skate’ skateboarding contest on Saturday, September 29th from 1-3 pm in the former Riverspace parking lot. There will be prizes, as well as a learn to skate area for smaller children.

We are happy to announce that ICSR and AAPI will be sponsoring our 8th Annual Health Fair on Saturday September 29th between 1 and 4 PM at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack. It will be held in the Community Room on the 4th Floor next to the Ice Rink. We will provide free medical services to the public such as blood pressure/blood sugar/cholesterol screening, lung function/dental/vision checkup as well as nutrition and weight loss counseling. We will also have interactive sessions with experts. The fair is open to all and we expect attendance to exceed 500 people.NY Giant Super Bowl Champion Aamani Toomer will be presenty at the Fair.

American Association for Physicians of Indian Origin(AAPI) is the second largest organization of physicians in the country. In Rockland county, we have over 150 physicians. AAPI of Rockland promotes educational and scientific activities in the region and is an active and vibrant organization involved in all aspects of providing medical care to the public including our annual Health Fair.

As you may be aware the India Cultural Society of Rockland (ICSR) is a non-profit organization representing over 500 families of Indian origin in the county of Rockland. The mission of the ICSR is to promote and maintain Indian traditions, customs, art and music in our younger generations as well as the community at large. We are proud to be recognized by the County Legislature for our efforts and are deeply indebted for its support over the years.

Earth and Sea showcases the work of three artists exploring the natural landscape using their own unique processes to illustrate movement, form and human interaction with the elements.  Zaria Forman’s intricate drawings explore moments of transition, turbulence and tranquility in the landscape and their impact on the viewer.  Gretchen Kane layers transparent color and line, creating movement, repetition and relationship in her work.  Leah Oates’s photography responds to sites and objects that are often ignored and articulates the effects of social processes and consumption on the landscape.

The carnival that was once popular at the Nanuet Mall is making an appearance at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, NY. There will be plenty of rides, games, food and fun for the whole family. Free parking and free admission. Special events include a car cruise on Thursday, a family health and safety expo on Saturday and vendor sale on Sunday. The carnival is a benefit for the Jan and Niles Davies Learning Center.
